The Hero of the Month Award recognizes one Wisconsin hero each month, selected from community nominations. The Hero of the Year Award is the state’s highest recognition, honoring one exceptional hero annually through a formal selection committee process.

Anyone—friends, family, coworkers, or community members—can submit a nomination. The process is free, open to all, and designed to spotlight deserving Wisconsin heroes.

No. Nominating a Wisconsin hero for either the monthly or annual award is always free.

Eligible nominees include Wisconsin military personnel, veterans, law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS professionals, healthcare workers, and teachers. Nominees should demonstrate exceptional dedication, service, and impact on their communities.

Hero of the Month recipients receive certificates of appreciation, public recognition on our website and social media, and local media opportunities. Hero of the Year winners receive a commemorative plaque, statewide recognition at the Wisconsin State Capitol, and a cash award.

  • Hero of the Year: Nominations for the 2026 award cycle are due by February 28, 2026.
